intro~Jurancon wine is produced from vines grown on the rich hillsides facing the grandeur of the Pyrenees southwest of the city of Pau between Lourdes and Biarritz. Domaine de Cinquau is in the centre of the appellation area at Artiguelouve, just southwest of the town of Jurancon. This is also close to the beautiful Basque country.
In the 14th Century the Princes of Béarn introduced the concept of a "cru", and this was the first attempt at a wine classification in France long before its use elsewhere.
Specific local grape varieties are grown suited to the local climate, which covers an extreme range from severe mountain climate to a hot southern climate, with a mild oceanic climate in between. The autumns tend to be long and warm, ideal for ripening the grapes, and ultimately for dehydrating them to concentrate the juices for the sweet dessert wines.~~~8198~8207~~
